Ugly Sweater Winter Art Activity

This ugly sweater design is a fun art activity to do during the winter. Use the knit of the sweater, like pixels, to design the sweater.

It’s a little trickier than it looks, so I recommend this for upper elementary and older. There is definitely some counting and focus needed to create patterns and pictures using the knit of the sweater, so be ready for a quiet classroom. There are 2 levels included, so you can pick the best one for your students or differentiate as needed. You’ll also get a page of variations.

This is a really versatile art lesson that can be done at different levels, with a variety of media and with various ways to focus the lesson. The knit texture on the drawing page will give your finished sweaters a unique look.

The Ugly Sweater lesson allows your students to practice following directions, fine motor skills, problem-solving, creative thinking, and much more. The best part? It requires no prep on your end!
